SEEDS 2026 showcases future-ready designers through innovation and sustainability

SERDANG, 24 July - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) showcased innovative student design projects at the 12th International Student-Driven Exhibition for Exhibition and Design Showcase (SEEDS) 2026, highlighting sustainable solutions and interdisciplinary approaches to real-world challenges.

Organised by UPM's Faculty of Design and Architecture (FRSB), the annual exhibition brought together students, academics and industry practitioners to explore how design can contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive future.

Dean of FRSB, Prof. Gs. Dr. Mohd Johari Mohd Yusof, said SEEDS continues to serve as a platform for students to develop innovative ideas while strengthening collaboration with industry and international partners.

“Platforms such as the International SEED Showcase provide opportunities for us to present ideas, receive professional feedback, collaborate with industry, and demonstrate how academic learning can be translated into solutions with genuine societal impact.

“At the same time, it strengthens our partnerships with industry and international collaborators, ensuring that our graduates remain globally relevant while making meaningful contributions to local communities," he said.

Held under the theme “Life by Design”, SEEDS 2026 featured projects centred on sustainability, well-being and future living, encouraging innovative solutions to contemporary societal needs.

Deputy Secretary General (Macro) of the Ministry of Economy, Malaysia, Dato' Ts. V. Valluvan Veloo said the International SEED Showcase has grown into an important platform that promotes creativity, innovation and collaboration among academia, industry and international partners.

“Over the past twelve editions, the International SEED Showcase has developed into a meaningful platform that promotes creativity, innovation, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among universities, industry partners, and international institutions.

“The theme of this year’s showcase, “Life by Design,” reflects the growing importance of design in addressing contemporary challenges and creating solutions that contribute towards a sustainable, inclusive and resilient future for the nation," he said.

Meanwhile, 12th International SEEDS Showcase 2026 Coordinator, Associate Prof. Ts. Dr. Velu Perumal KMW, CiDE, said the exhibition enables students to showcase their creativity while gaining valuable exposure to industry expectations and professional practice.

"SEEDS provides students with an opportunity to present their ideas, receive constructive feedback from academics and industry professionals, and strengthen the practical skills needed to succeed in the design profession," he said.

SEEDS 2026 also attracted participation from international universities, reflecting the exhibition's growing role as an international platform for design innovation and academic collaboration.
