UPM confirmed its championship after winning a total of 118 medals which comprised 44 gold, 41 silver and 33 bronze medals, dethroning the 2014 and 2016 SUKIPT champions, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) with 2 gold medals.

During the handover ceremony of UPM Contingent Flag to 2018 SUKIPT on 29 January, UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dato' Dr. Aini Ideris stated that UPM had already set the target to emerge as the overall champions in the fourth edition of SUKIPT.

“Various programmes and early training have been organised by UPM Sports Centre to maintain  the performance of the athletes including a two-week centralised training at UPM which has really helped the athletes in preparing for the games,” she mentioned when expressing her gratitude towards all athletes and contingent officials.

According to the Head of Sports Centre, Dr. Hanafiah Ayub, in this edition of the games, UPM had sent a contingent that comprised 458 athletes, coaches and managers and competed in 26 out of the 27 events held.

“A total of 100 teams from institutions of higher learning in Malaysia and a few invited teams from universities in South East Asia took part in the competition,” he added.
