UPM is most sustainable university in Malaysia

SERDANG, Dec 14 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) continues to excel in its achievements in the UI-GreenMetric World University Ranking 2021 when it was once again ranked first at the national level, thus making a history of success in maintaining its position for twelve (12) consecutive years.

UPM also managed to move its position up to the 27th rank in the ‘Top 50 Sustainable Universities in The World’ this year and was listed as the third best university in Asia.

The ranking on sustainable campus covers six main scopes, namely infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transportation management and most importantly, education. A total of 956 universities from various countries were evaluated in the UI-GreenMetric World University Ranking this year, and 25 of them were universities from Malaysia.

UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, said this success must be maintained and should be a catalyst for all UPM community members in their continuing efforts towards conservation and preservation of the environment through various activities and programmes that can bring impact to the formation of a community that cares about the environment. Therefore, in 2022, UPM will focus more on energy and climate change.

“UPM will continue to be committed to supporting sustainability efforts and playing the role as a campus that is committed to disseminating knowledge through teaching and research with a focus on the conservation and preservation of this ageing environment. Sustainability efforts will continue to be implemented by campus members in response to UPM's intention to 'Echo the Call of Al-Falah from the Tower of Knowledge' and ensure the UPM Strategic Plan 2021-2025 can be achieved successfully" he added.

The results released by the organiser on December 14, 2021, witnessed universities from the United States and Europe dominating the top 20 rankings. - UPM
