UPM bags six gold at NUCEL 2014

SHAH ALAM, Nov 27 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) won six gold medals at the Invention, Innovation & Design on e-Learning (IIDEL) competition, held in conjunction with the National University Carnival of e-Learning 2014 (NUCEL 2014) on November 14 and 15.

Of the 22 entries sent, UPM also managed to nab 16 silver medals in the competition which was organised by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education and Malaysia Public Universities e-Learning Council (MEIPTA).

The three categories competed; Invention, Innovation and Design on e-Learning, courseware development (OER-Open Educational Resources) and system development/mobile applications.

The first project that won the gold medal was Easy Inventory developed by Dr. Johari Mohd Yusof, Assoc. Prof. LAr. Dr. Osman Mohd Tahir and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamariah Lola.

Other gold medalists; Classdiagramcritic (CDC): An Educational Tool to Support UML Class Diagram developed by Dr. Norhayati Mohd Ali, Dr. Novia Admodisastro, Soran Mahmood Abdulkareem and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abu Bakar Md. Sultan;

Fiz Esprint 1- Introduction Wave Series, Logic and Power Balance developed by Prof. Dr. Sidek Ab Aziz, Nor Fathilah Khalid, Nasuha Md Zain and Nurul Hana Mohd. Borhan.

The project developed by Prof. Dr. Sidek Ab. Aziz, Suzaini Sihar and Zaidan Abdul Wahab, Esprint Semicon Application Dev for Self Learning Environment also managed to win the gold.

Two other projects that won the gold were Putra Learning Analytics Decision Support System (PUTRALADSS), developed by Habibah Abdul Jalil, Erzam Marlisah, Masrah Azrifah, Azmi Murad and Rosnani Jusoh as well as NEMD3- A System to Measure User Engagement On Varying E-Learning Platforms, developed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Normahdiah Sheik Said, Prof. Rahinah Ibrahim and Nadiah Suboh.

NUCEL 2014 was aimed to promote the practical applications of e-learning and blended learning, as a platform for students, academics and the public to introduce the latest e-learning products and also as the official platform for recognition and conferment to the best achievements in e-learning.
