SERDANG, 30 Oct.  “I try not to be a burden to my parents as I want to be independent and use my own hard earned money to fund my studies in UPM, “ said Mhitra A/P Subramaniam, 24, a graduate in Bachelor of Arts (Malay Language and Linguistics), Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication.

“Throughout my studies here, I have never asked for money from my parents. I want to prove to them that I can be independent and survive on my own,” she said when met at the 42nd Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Proper time management has made Mhitra successful not only in earning her own income but in her studies, too.

“I worked part-time at a fast food restaurant and gave tuition to primary school children, and after work during my practical training in Putrajaya, I worked at a restaurant until 11 p.m.,” said the determined young lady.

The elder sibling of two, who is now working full time at a customer service centre, plans to continue her studies in Master of Journalism next year. - UPM
