Buying, donating in aid of needy students

SERDANG, Oct 27 – Visitors at Jualan Amal Wakaf project will be spoilt for choices as a wide variety of items will be put up for sale and at the same time donate towards Wakaf Ilmu Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) fund at the same time.

The goods in the form of souvenirs, reading materials, health products, food and drink are for sale under the Jualan Amal Wakaf project which is held in conjunction with an Agriculture Exposition and UPM’s 39th Convocation which start Saturday until November 5.

Among the more interesting items will be the orchid bouquets, potted orchids, Al-Quran Waqf Ibtida which comes complete with a tajwid guide, books on ways to perform prayers in critical times, a memoir entitled “aku dan amanah-MU” by former UPM Vice-Chancellor, the late Dato’ Ir. Dr Radin Umar RadinSohadi, herbal sachets, herbal bath soaps, guava juice, mango juice, potting compost and mixed soil.

Administrator of zakat, wakaf and endowment Division, Bursar Office, UPM, Nuruliman Ibrahim said Jualan Amal Wakaf, the second time to have been held, targeted to collect about RM100,000 in sale, after the first time last year when it managed to collect about RM40,000.

According to him, 30 per cent of the total sale from Jualan Amal Wakaf will be donated towards Wakaf Ilmu UPM fund to care for the students and to ease their financial burden.

He also said what is interesting about the project was that it will be fully mobilised by 45 asnaf students who formed the Rakan Bakti Putra squad under the supervision of officers from UPM’s management administrator of wakaf and endowment division of the Bursar Office.

Rakan Bakti Putra was launched by UPM Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr Mohd Fauzi Ramlan, last October 15. - UPM.
