UPM Records 29 Subjects in QS WUR by Subject 2026 Rankings

 

SERDANG, 25 March – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has achieved a significant milestone with 29 subjects ranked across five broad fields in the QS World University Rankings (QS WUR) by Subject 2026, released on March 25, 2026.

 

The ranked subjects span five key disciplines: Engineering, Natural Sciences, Life Sciences & Medicine, Arts & Humanities, and Social Sciences & Management, reflecting UPM’s sustained academic strength across diverse disciplines.

 

Among the standout achievements, Veterinary Science retained its position among the world’s leading subjects, ranking 38th globally. The subject has maintained its status as the top-ranked subject in Malaysia for five consecutive years and in Asia for three consecutive years, underscoring its strong international reputation.

 

Meanwhile, Agriculture and Forestry also continue to excel, ranking 64th globally and remaining within the world’s top 100. The subject has maintained its position as Malaysia’s leading programme for 14 consecutive years and is now ranked 10th in Asia, further cementing UPM’s leadership in agricultural sciences.

 

UPM also recorded positive progress with the inclusion of two subjects in the rankings for the first time. Nursing was placed in the 151–225 global band, while Data Science & Artificial Intelligence ranked within the 101–200 range worldwide. These achievements reflect growing international recognition of UPM’s academic and research strengths in emerging and emerging fields aligned with global technological and healthcare demands.

 

At the broad subject level, UPM demonstrated positive momentum with improvements across several areas. Arts & Humanities rose to 252nd globally from 291st, Life Sciences & Medicine improved to 154th from 158th, and Social Sciences & Management advanced to 170thfrom 183rd. These gains reflect the university’s ongoing commitment to enhancing teaching quality, research excellence and intellectual contributions on the international level.

 

Overall, UPM’s performance in the QS WUR by Subject 2026 reflects encouraging progress, with 20 subjects ranked within the world’s top 200, an increase from 19 in the previous year. In addition, seven subjects improved their positions, while 12 subjects maintained their rankings, demonstrating the university’s consistency and competitiveness internationally.
