Nahwan Nur wins National-level Nasyid Festival 2016

MELAKA, Oct 22 – A nasyid team from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Nahwan Nur, recently emerged as the champions under the Modern category at a national-level Nasyid Festival.

Nahwan Nur which represented the state of Selangor, also won the Best Song award through its number “Dunia Si Kecil”, scripted by UPM alumni, Wan Saleh and lyrics also by UPM alumni, Muhammad Radzi Mohd Dul. 

As the champions, Nahwan Nur walked away with cash of RM10,000, while the Best Song Award carried with it a cash prize of RM2,000, together with a certificate and a plaque.

The contest was held to take nasyid rhythms to a greater level, besides strengthening solidarity and interaction between Muslims in the country.

President of Nahwan Nur Nasyid Club, Muhammad Aliff Rusli said the victory was a form of appreciation extended to all UPM seniors and alumni members who had given their undivided support and advice to the nasyid team.

“All UPM residents are very proud of this victory which also serves as a step forward for all Nahwan Nur members to continue giving their best in the future,” he said.

Teams from 11 states took part in the Traditional Category and nine others in the Modern Category in the contest, organized by Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM) with the cooperation of Jabatan Agama Islam Melaka.

Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka, Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob gave away the prizes at the contest. Also present was Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Utama Ir. Idris Haron.
